Lake Mburo National Park was officially established as a national park in 1983.
It was originally designated as a controlled hunting area in 1933 and later upgraded to a game reserve in 1963 before achieving full national park status.
Covering an area of 260 square kilometres (about 100 square miles), it proudly holds the distinction of being Uganda’s smallest savannah national park. Despite its compact size, it protects an incredibly rich mosaic of 5 distinct lakes, expansive wetlands, and acacia woodlands.

•Why does Lake Mburo national park belong on your itinerary?
. The Land of Zebras and Antelopes: Lake Mburo is the premium destination in southern Uganda to see massive herds of Burchell’s zebras. It is also one of the few places where you can spot the magnificent, towering Impala (which Kampala is named after) and the giant Eland—the largest antelope in Africa.
